Restoring our 1906 home in Inglewood CA on a budget

This is the 1906 Craftsman-style home we bought in May 2013. We have many improvements we’re planning, and many we’ve already done! This is the tour we did before we moved in- so the home (and yard!) exactly as it was pre-projects.

According to the inspectors and other experts we’ve had through, much of the home is original including:

-Original hardwood floors. Notice that the floors in the front have what’s called “tiger-stripe oak”. In most cases, people would put most of the tiger-stripe oak at the entryway and front rooms, and less of it toward the back rooms. Tiger-stripe oak is actually illegal to make now, but is so lovely!

-Built-ins in the dining room and library

-Copper light fixtures in library

-Front door and brass handle/latch (the original door has paneling over it on the front side, and the paneling was added later)

-Pocket door

-Unusual windows (especially the long windows and the tiny glass panes)

We’re amazed to have found this place in such great shape and we’re looking forward to getting it back as close as we can to its original early-1900s glory!

Enjoy!

  2. Very cool home. Many houses in Inglewood and South LA are true gems. I’m glad this home has a great owner. 🙂 We bought a mid-century home in West Athens last year and we love it.
